List a Position
Parish of All Saints, Ashmont, Dorchester (Boston)
C.B. Fisk, Inc., Opus 103, 1995
Religious institutions with an employment opportunity for a musician may register with the Boston chapter’s placement service. This service is likely the most effective avenue for notifying local area organists about the availability of open positions. Listings will be published in the members only section of our website, which chapter members access by using a password. Listings can be posted for up to six months, and revised as necessary during that period. The fee is $100.
The national office of the Guild also posts employment opportunities. Click here to view their listings and to post on that site. Their pricing plans range from $100 to $300. Musicians hoping to relocate to the Boston area may be using the national website in their search.

SALARIES AND ADVICE
The Committee on Career Development and Support of the American Guild of Organists published a resource in October 2020 that contains information about searching for a musician, responsibilities, the application form, evaluation of candidates, and compensation. Engaging Musicians in Religious Institutions can be found here. This resource provides perspectives for clergy and lay persons responsible for the process which will bring effective and talented musicians to religious institutions to serve their diverse memberships.
By agreement with the Federal Trade Commission, the American Guild of Organists is prohibited from giving advice or setting standards relating to employment. Click here for more information about anti-trust compliance on the national organization's website.
OTHER RESOURCES
In addition to our placement service, the Boston chapter provides other resources to religious institutions in the area. These include the services of our organ advisory committee, a free community event calendar, and lists of free lance musicians available for substitute work. In addition, clergy and non-organist staff members may join the Boston chapter as a chapter friend. Click here to see more information about membership.
If your new hire is not already a member of the American Guild of Organists, we hope you’ll encourage her or him to join the Boston chapter. We have many resources available to sustain musicians at various levels with information, inspiration, skill enhancement, and supportive collegial relationships. You might want consider making an annual membership, which is not expensive, a part of your new employee’s salary package.
