Abraham Ross Wins Chapter Competition
For many years, this chapter has hosted a competition for young organists, which is a part of the AGO/Quimby Regional Competitions for Young Organists. They are made possible by a generous grant from Michael Quimby, President, Quimby Pipe Organs, Inc.
The 2015 Competition was held on April 11 at Church of the Advent, Beacon Hill. We are very grateful to to the Rector and Vestry of the Church, and to Ross Wood, host organist, and Jonathan Ambrosino, organ curator, for their assistance and support of this event.
The winner of the competition was Abraham Ross. Mr. Ross is a student of James David Christie and is Organ Scholar at Holy Cross College in Worcester.
Second place was Forrest Eimold. Mr. Eimold is a student of John Robinson (St. Paul’s Choir School in Cambridge), and is Organ Scholar at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church.
Third place was awarded to Alexander Pattavina. Mr. Pattavina is a student of Paul Jacobs at The Juilliard School in New York City, and Organ Scholar at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church.
Regardless of their placing, all three showed extraordinary talent and are destined for great things in the organ profession. The Chapter extends its sincerest congratulations for a job well done by all three.
Judges for the competition were Balint Karosi (First Lutheran Church, Boston); Abbey Siegfried (Phillips Academy, Andover, and Sub-Dean of the Merrimack Valley Chapter); and Bryan Ashley (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston). We are very grateful to them for taking the time to share their expertise with the competitors.
